1 What we store, and where
Sunnah Daily has no sign-up and no user accounts. Your reading progress, quiz scores, daily streak, theme choice, language setting, Quran bookmarks, notes, flashcard schedule, learning path, anything you type into the Zakat Calculator or the Hajj Companion's trip notes, and your prayer-times location and settings are all saved with your browser's local storage, directly on your device. We never receive any of it. A few things do go out from your device, all explained in section 2: your rounded location, sent to the prayer-time services so they can answer, a prayer reminder or new-post alert you switch on in the browser, and a question you choose to send us.
The Hajj Companion's trip notes can hold sensitive details, such as phone numbers, hotel addresses and medication reminders. They are stored as plain text in this browser, not encrypted and not backed up, so anyone who uses this device and browser can read them. Keep that in mind on a shared phone or computer.
To remove your data, open Settings, then "Your data". "Reset progress" clears finished sections, your streak and quiz scores only. "Delete everything" removes all of it from this device and switches off any prayer reminder on our reminder server. Clearing your browser data or uninstalling the app also removes what is on the device.
To keep working offline, Sunnah Daily also keeps copies of pages you visit in your browser's own cache (a service worker). That cache holds site content only - never your personal data - and lives entirely on your device.
2 Third-party services we use
To keep pages fast and correct, a few pieces load from outside services:
- Fonts - typefaces load from Google Fonts. Your browser makes a direct request to Google's font servers, which can see your device's IP address, the way any web request does.
- Quran text and audio - recitation, translation, tafsir and word-by-word data come from public Quran services (cdn.islamic.network, download.quranicaudio.com and the quran.com APIs api.quran.com and api.qurancdn.com). These requests happen directly between your browser and that service, only when you open a surah or play audio, and carry no personal data beyond the usual IP address any web request shows.
- Prayer times - the Prayer Times page calculates times from your location using the free Aladhan service (api.aladhan.com). If you tap "Use my location", your browser asks your permission first, and only then are your coordinates sent to that service to get the times back. If you type a city instead, only that city name is sent, to Open-Meteo's free place search (geocoding-api.open-meteo.com), to find where it is. Your location is rounded to about 1 km before anything is sent or saved. Setting a place is a choice you make on the Prayer Times page, but once it is saved in your browser, any page that shows a prayer time - the Today screen and the small prayer bar in the corner - refreshes today's times for that place from Aladhan, roughly once a day. We never receive or store your location ourselves.
- Prayer reminders - in the Sunnah Daily phone app, the bells on the Today screen schedule reminders on your phone itself, and nothing is sent anywhere. On the website, a phone or browser cannot book a reminder for later on its own, so when you tap a bell our small reminder server keeps what it needs to send one: your browser's push address (an anonymous code from Apple, Google or Mozilla), your location rounded to about 1 km, your calculation method, Asr setting, time zone, and which prayers you chose. It uses these only to work out your prayer times with the Aladhan service and send the reminder through your browser's push service, whose own privacy terms apply to delivering it. Anyone with notifications on also gets a short alert when a new blog post goes out; you can turn that off with the new-post button on the blog. If you turn on only new-post alerts, the server keeps just your browser's push address and nothing about your location or prayers. Turn every bell and new-post alerts off and all of it is deleted. It is also deleted if your browser tells us the push address no longer works. Nothing else about you is kept, and it is never used for anything else.
- Questions you send us - the "Send us your question" form, on the Ask page and under each blog post, sends the words of your question and the page you sent it from to the same small server, and your email address only if you choose to add one so the writer can reply to you. The email is used for nothing but that reply and is never shared. Your name is not asked for, and nothing else about you is kept. A copy of each question is emailed to the writer so it is not missed. Questions are read by the writer, answered, and then deleted from the server, email included. When the Ask box cannot answer something, the words of that search are kept too, with any email address or phone number removed and nothing about who searched, and counted so we can see which questions come up most.
- Polls - when you answer a poll on the About page, the same small server keeps the poll, the answer you tapped, and a random code your browser makes for itself, so the same browser is counted once. The code is not your name, your email or your IP address, and it cannot be linked to you. Results are shown to everyone only as totals.
- Place names - to show "Sevierville, Tennessee" rather than a pair of numbers, your coordinates (rounded to about 1 km) are sent to BigDataCloud's free reverse-geocoding service (api.bigdatacloud.net) to get the name back. This happens only on the Prayer Times page, only when you set a location, and we never receive or store it ourselves.
- Masjid Finder - to find the masjids closest to you, the Masjid Finder sends your saved place or your current location, rounded to about 5 km, to our own small server, which asks Google Maps for nearby masjids and keeps the answer for that area for 30 days. Nothing about you is stored with it. It also uses a copy of OpenStreetMap kept on this site. Google's map for a masjid comes from Google (www.google.com); the other small map is drawn from OpenStreetMap's map images (tile.openstreetmap.org). "Directions" opens Apple Maps or Google Maps, whichever you pick, and "Photos & reviews" opens the masjid's page on Google Maps; each then has your rough location like any map search.
- Gold and silver prices - on the Zakat Calculator, tapping "Get today's prices" asks two free services for the current spot price and exchange rate: gold-api.com and frankfurter.dev. Only that request is made - your amounts, your result, and everything you type stay on your device, saved in your browser's local storage. If you never tap the button, neither service is contacted.
- Read-aloud voices - the "Listen" feature on the English translation reader uses your device's own built-in text-to-speech voices. We prefer voices that run fully on your device; on some phones the operating system may provide a voice through its own online service, under that system's privacy terms. The text being read is the Quran translation already on the page - nothing you do or save is sent anywhere by us.
- Hosting - the site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any website, the hosting provider's servers keep standard technical logs (such as IP address and request time) to keep the site running and secure. We don't use these logs for tracking or advertising. To stop spam, our reminder and question server also counts requests per sender for one day, using a scrambled code made from the IP address, never the address itself, and deletes the count when the day ends.
- Visit counts - we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages are read, so we know what to improve. It loads a small script from Cloudflare (static.cloudflareinsights.com) that reports the page address, the page that linked to it, the type of browser and device, the country, and how fast the page loaded. It sets no cookies, does not follow you to other sites, and does not build a profile of you. It never sees your notes, progress, location or anything else saved on your device.
We don't run ad networks or tracking cookies, and we don't use any analytics beyond the visit counts above.
The qibla direction is worked out on your device, from your coordinates, using plain geometry. Nothing is sent anywhere to point you towards Makkah. If you switch on the live compass, your phone's compass readings stay on your phone; they are only used to turn the dial on screen.
3 No selling, no sharing
Apart from the website prayer reminders and new-post alerts you choose to switch on, and questions you choose to send (with an email address only if you add one for a reply), we don't collect personal information at all. Nothing of yours is sold or shared with advertisers or data brokers, including what the reminder server holds.
4 Children's privacy
Sunnah Daily is built for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. The only thing it keeps is what a website prayer reminder or new-post alert needs, and only while it is switched on.

6 Changes to this policy
If this policy changes as the site grows, the update will be posted on this page with a new date below.
