Story 1 of 12

The People of the Cave

أصحاب الكهف

Young men who walked out on a whole city

The Quran calls them fitya: young men

A handful of young men lived in a city that worshipped everything except Allah. They came to the truth on their own, said it out loud, and realised the city would kill them for it. So they did something that looks like defeat and was actually trust: they walked out, into a cave in the hills, and left the outcome to Allah.

Their dua on the way in is one of the shortest and most useful in the Quran: “Our Lord, give us mercy from Yourself, and bless our affair with guidance.” (18:10). Allah put them to sleep. Not for a night. For three hundred years and nine more (18:25). When they woke, thinking they had napped a day, the tyrant was dust, the city had come to faith, and the boys who ran away were its proof that Allah keeps what is left with Him.

The lesson to keep

Lesson: Sometimes the faithful move is to leave. Allah handles what you cannot carry.
Quran 18:9-26
